Automatic roles & welcome
Three complementary modules to welcome and organize your members without lifting a finger: auto-roles assigned automatically, self-service reaction role panels and welcome messages. Everything is configured in the The web dashboard — no command to remember.

01 Auto-roles
Automatically assign roles based on the new arrival's situation. Several mechanics coexist in the Auto-roles tab:
- Roles on join: one or more roles given to every human member the moment they join.
- Roles for bots: separate roles automatically applied to bots that join.
- Roles based on status: assign a role when a member's custom status contains a given text (e.g. a link to your server), removed as soon as they take it off.
- Roles based on server tag: reward members who display your server's tag (primary guild).
Tip — Auto-role limits per tier: 10 on FREE, 25 on PREMIUM, 200 on PRO. See Premium.
02 Reaction roles (self-service)
Create role panels: a decorated message (title, description, color) on which Ganyu adds one emoji reaction per offered role. Each member gives themselves a role by clicking the matching reaction, and removes it by taking away their reaction. Panels are composed visually in the dashboard.
Each panel works in one of the four modes below, depending on the intended use.
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Toggle | Free add and remove: reacting gives the role, removing the reaction takes it away. |
| Unique | One panel role at a time: reacting replaces the previously chosen role. |
| Verify | Verification: reacting gives the role, removing the reaction does nothing (irreversible). |
| Binding | Permanent: reacting gives the role once and for all, with no going back. |
Tip — Ideal for notification roles, color roles, access to server sections or a verification role at the entrance. Limits: 2/5/25 panels and 5/15/20 roles per panel (FREE/PREMIUM/PRO).
03 Auto-roles or reaction roles?
Auto-roles = automatic and imposed: the member gets the role without doing anything, based on rules (join, status, tag). Reaction roles = voluntary and self-service: it's the member who chooses whether to grab a role from a panel. The two combine very well.
04 Welcome and farewell messages
Set up custom join and leave messages (text, embeds, variables like the member's name) in the channels of your choice, from the dashboard's Welcome tab. Perfect to pair with auto-roles for a complete welcome.
? Frequently asked questions
Q. Do I need a command to create a role panel?
No, everything is done in the dashboard: you compose the message, assign an emoji to each role, choose the mode, then publish. Ganyu adds the reactions to the message itself.
Q. What's the difference between the Toggle and Unique modes?
In Toggle, a member can stack several roles from the panel. In Unique, grabbing a role automatically removes the other — handy for an exclusive choice (a single color, a single region…).
Q. Can I give bots a different role?
Yes. Auto-roles distinguish between roles on join for human members and roles reserved for bots that join the server.
Q. How do I reward members who display the server tag?
Enable roles based on server tag (primary guild) in the auto-roles: the role is given automatically to members who display your tag and removed if they take it off.
Q. Do welcome messages support variables?
Yes, you can insert variables like the member's name, and use embeds for a polished look, in the join and leave channels of your choice.
